In April 2023, the PALS Office announced that Minnesota State would provide funding for all thirty-three (33) of their institutions to implement Third Iron’s LibKey suite of products at no cost to their local library. While eleven (11) of our libraries already had it implemented prior to April 2023, the other twenty-two (22) institutions took the opportunity to add the LibKey suite of products after this funding was announced. PALS worked with Third Iron and our libraries to implement the LibKey suite. The last Minnesota State library implemented the LibKey products in February 2024.

Third Iron’s Libkey Complete products include:

  • Browzine allows browsing and reading a wide variety of the Electronic Journals your library subscribes to as  well as a curated selection of Open Access Journals
  • Libkey Discovery integration into Primo provides simple direct linking to many journal articles from all of your library’s electronic databases
  • Libkey Nomad browser extension connects patrons to library content wherever they may be searching on the Internet. Third Iron provides instructions on how your campus IT department can deploy LibKey Nomad across your campus computers using Microsoft Group Policies.

Libkey’s OpenURL linking can also be applied in other places, including:

  • EBSCO, Gale, ProQuest, and other Databases where you may already have links back to Primo for Full Text or Resource Sharing requests
  • PubMed (after setting up PubMed’s Otool)
  • Google Scholar

Third Iron’s Academic Libraries Success Guide has instructions and promotional materials for making the most of their services based on strategies used by other Academic Libraries at https://thirdiron.com/success-guide/academic-libraries/

If you have questions or would like assistance in adding any of these LibKey or Browzine features to your library website, please open a case in the PALS Support Center.
