The Islandora community consists of implementers, developers, service companies, and users working as transparently and collaboratively as possible towards better documentation and an always open-source code base. The community operates under a Code of Conduct. 

Involvement is formalized through various levels of membership and helps provide financial support. The community remains engaged through several ways, including:

  • Calls
    The community holds regular tech calls and user calls, and monthly committer calls. In these calls, developers, testers, users, and others discuss tickets, issues, and developmental goals.
  • Committees and Interest Groups
    We covered the committees and groups that support and shape the growth of the Islandora community in our previous post about The Islandora Foundation. Additionally, there are several interest groups that meet regularly to discuss specific topic areas relevant to Islandora. Interest groups provide a forum for information exchange, mentorship, and development within their area of interest. Interest groups also provide information to the Islandora Coordinating Committee on matters of wider interest relating to their area of expertise. Some active interest groups include:
  • Events
    Events within the Islandora community include webinars and face-to-face events held around the world. Islandora webinars are all recorded and available on the Islandora Foundation’s YouTube channel. Face-to-face events include a biannual week-long Islandoracon and shorter immersive camps held several times a year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face events have shifted to all virtual.
  • Google Groups
    The Islandora community uses Google Groups to facilitate discussion, including a general list for all users.
  • Slack Channels
    The Islandora community is active at islandora.slack.com. To receive an invite to join, complete this form.

Members of the PALS Islandora team are active community members. We have attended past Islandorcons, participate in interest groups, and engage with other Islandora users on both Google Groups and Slack. It is great to be part of an international Islandora community that is supportive, innovative, and a key aspect to the success of Islandora.

Fun Fact: In 2015, the first Islandora Conference was held in the birthplace of Islandora, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, which is also the home of Anne of Green Gables.
